Kancho Nobuaki & Sensei Fumitoshi Seminars
I'm very excited to announce that, for the first time, Satsuma Dojo, in cooperation with Shotokan Karate-do International—U.S. Federation (SKI-USF), will host both Kancho (President) Nobuaki Kanazawa and Sensei Fumitoshi Sensei of Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF) in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Columbia Neighborhood Center in Sunnyvale.
Kancho and Fumitoshi Sensei are the first and third sons, respectively, of Soke (Family Head) Hirokazu Kanazawa, founder of SKIF, of which Satsuma Dojo has been a member since 1983 and through which all of our black belts are certified. Kancho (6th dan) and Fumitoshi Sensei (5th dan) are both former world champions and multiple time All-Japan champions.
On Sunday evening, 6:30p-8:30p, you’re all invited to join Kancho, Fumitoshi Sensei as well as SKI-USF Chief Instructor Jonathan Kwok for a reception at The Loft Bar & Bistro, 90 S. Second St., in Downtown San Jose. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all of us to socialize with our special guests and with each other in a casual, interactive environment. We’ll have the downstairs bar and dining areas all to ourselves with a food table and lots of space to move around and mingle.
If you wish to join us for the reception, please RSVP to me by Wednesday, July 3. (You can pay at the door.) Your $25 will include 1) a drink ticket for alcohol and 2) unlimited appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages.
We are very happy to announce that Satsuma Dojo again has the opportunity to host Sensei Nobuaki Kanazawa, Designated President for Shotokan Karate-do International Federation (SKIF) and all its 5 million members in 130 countries.
Nobuaki Sensei is the oldest son of Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa. While he spends most of time traveling throughout the world sharing the SKIF philosophy and curriculum, the world is a very big place, and Satsuma Dojo is extremely fortunate to train with him twice a year! It's easy for our members to be accustomed to regular visits by Nobuaki Sensei, but we must always remember that most SKIF members in the world may never meet Nobuaki Sensei!
Our seminars will occur on Saturday, February 23, and Sunday, February 24, at the Columbia Neighborhood Center. There will be ample opportunities for members of all ranks to train with Sensei and to get autographs and pictures. See the attached flyer for details of the schedule and the fees.
Satsuma Dojo is one of the three original SKIF dojo in the United States from 1983. We continue to enjoy a strong relationship with SKIF that was initiated by Sensei Isao Wada, the founder of Satsuma Dojo.
Sensei Fumitoshi Kanazawa (Kanazawa Kancho's youngest son), winner of multiple All-Japan Championships and the 2006 World Championship will be holding seminars at Satsuma Dojo. This is the first time that he'll be in the San Francisco Bay Area (he'll also visit Fresno), and I look forward to meeting him myself for the first time. I hope that you'll all be able to attend.
WHEN: Sa, Oct 20 (2:00pm-4:00pm) and Su, Oct 21 (12:30pm-2:30pm)
WHERE: Columbia Neighborhood Center
COST: Youth $15 for one day, $20 for two days; Adults $20 for one day, $30 for two days
Satsuma Dojo is very fortunate to be able to host Kanazawa Nobuaki Sensei, son of SKIF founder Kancho Kanazawa, of the Honbu Dojo, and multiple-time world champion for a day of seminars.
