Bill Wilson Center

On Sunday, December 20 we will have that opportunity again at the Bill Wilson Center. This center is a temporary shelter for homeless teens. Especially in the holiday season I think it's meaningful to help clean, cook, for the benefit of others.

If you're interested in joining please let me know and I'll also create a flyer to pass out at our classes.
I hope this continues as an annual event and adds to the great spirit we have in the dojo.

Cherry Blossom Festival

On the weekend of April 25-26, Satsuma Dojo has been invited to again provide a demonstration in the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival, and I hope that you will be able to participate. We have been a part of the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival for over 25 years!

Sat, April 25      1:45-2:15PM
Sun, April 26    1:15-1:45PM

The Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival is located at Memorial Park near Highway 85/Stevens Creek Boulevard, across from DeAnza College.
Google Map

Everyone who attends will be able to participate. We’ll do some kihon waza, kata and yakusoku kumite with the complexity depending on who shows up. The black belts will finish off the 30-minute demonstration with something we’re still developing.

The Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival has a variety of other great and interesting demonstrations the entire weekend, and the festival also has a number of food booths and displays to peruse.

Again, I hope that you will be able to join us. Please RSVP so that I have a sense about the number of participants each day. And if you plan to attend, be at the stage 30 minutes early so that we can practice everything once beforehand.

2009 Cherry Blossom Festival

Our demonstration at this festival continues a 22-year tradition for the Satsuma Dojo. In actuality, it is a straightforward and abbreviated class consisting of kihon, kata, kumite – and maybe something special!

April 25-26, 2009 at Memorial Park in Cupertino. Across the street from De Anza College in Cupertino.

San Kyu Test :: Dec. 20th

On Saturday, December 20, 9:00am, a sankyu (3rd kyu, brown belt) examination will be held at the Columbia Neighborhood Center. You are welcome to come watch the examination and support the following dojo members tentatively scheduled to take the examination.

-Huy Nguyen
-Neda Haghighat
-Dominic Abucejo
-Michael Dries-Coons
-Tim Fairfield
-Khanh Bui
-Jeffrey Fairfield

This examination is somewhat of a milestone in that the dojo has not conducted a sankyu examination in about 10 years. This group of members could be the first new sankyu members since before 2000.

I hope you can join us on December 20.

SKIF Celebration :: Japan Trip!

SKIF will be celebrating Kanazawa Kancho's 77th birthday and SKIF's 30th anniversary in Tokyo, October 23-26, 2008. Please see the brief note below from General Headquarters.

If you are seriously interested in going (no firm commitment at this point), let me know. If we have at least 20 people, including family/friends, I can coordinate a group trip with Japan Air Lines. With JAL, we can each travel to Japan on different days, so you can add days before or after the SKIF events to best meet your individual travel needs/interests.

I know that this would be a big use of your precious vacation time. This is also a major karate event and celebration, the magnitude of which we may not experience again in our lives. I hope you can make the trip.
